George’s Street Arcade

It's not hard to miss the George's Street Arcade. This striking red brick market is one of the most beautiful spots in the city, with its fairytale arches, giant ornate windows and gothic turrets giving it the feel of a castle right in the middle of the city. Inside, it's one of the best collections of independent shops in the city, some of which have been around for decades.

You can get yourself a piercing, browse through vintage books, pick up a pair of vintage jeans or sit with a bubble tea for a while. If you're feeling peckish, you can get a cupcake from Lolly & Cooks, or sit down for a bite to eat in the Market Bar. Whatever you do, don't miss the Man of Aran fudge stall - this homemade fudge is one of the best sweet treats in the city (pick up a bar of the salted caramel flavour and you'll be transported straight to heaven).

Right on the Drury Street exit, you'll find Loose Canon, a cheese and wine shop that sells excellent wines by the glass, cheese and charcuterie boards, which you can dive into while watching the city walk by the window. Visit during the day and you can get one of the absolute best grilled cheese sandwiches you could ever dream of - they arrive dripping in melted butter and oozing with artisanal farmhouse cheese. Pure bliss.
